Super was such a creepy movie

Super is the latest in the regular Joe super hero films that include Kick-Ass and Defendor and is by far the creepiest. It stars Dwight from the office who plays a depressed doofus whose wife has a drug problem and leaves him for a local drug kingpin. All in the dumps, Dwight has a vision/dream where he gets a visit from tentacles which cut a hole in his head, spew some tentacle sauce on his brain which god's finger massages. Seeing this as a sign from God, he becomes a superhero and fights for good.

God works in mysterious ways I guess.
After this, he befriends the chick from Juno(Ellen Page) who happens to work in a comic book store and he uses some comics as an idea for a super hero outfit. He becomes the Crimson Bolt whose superpower is to basically hit people in the head with a wrench. Along the way Ellen Page becomes his sidekick, Boltie and they continue hitting people in the head with wrenches(with bloody results!) and eventually attempt to rescue Dwight's woman from Kevin Bacon who in between movies apparently deals drugs.

Boltie is super adorable even if she does some creepo stuff in this flick.
The movie really gets pretty bizarre near the end. The violence really starts to ramp up once Boltie joins the fray and most of it is pretty awesome in an over the top way. There's one bizarre scene where Juno rapes Dwight in her costume that is about as awkward and creepy as movies get. The movie ramps up with a finale at Kevin Bacon's drug mansion that has some pretty solid death scenes with Dwight going all Rambo on everyone's asses. Overall, the movie is a bit too all over the place, it starts off as a humorous comedy then gets awkward, depressing then back to funny a bit then off to creepy land with Boltie and then back to depressing near the end. It's worth a watch if you're into weird characters doing weird things with some light humor interspersed with over the top violence which is right up my alley. Plus afterwards, you'll probably feel bad for thinking Boltie is super hot even though she's a total crazy creep.

  1. Never heard about it, it sounds pretty good. Ok maybe not that good, but it looks like fun. I will give it a shot.
